Sports Updates - 2014

This is such a great time of year. There is so much happening in the Sports World. There is a lot of Big Event sports too and that is even better.

World Junior Hockey.

A yearly tradition...the World Juniors are always a great event to watch post Christmas. It is such a highly skilled, highly competitive tournament, that captivates hockey fans from all over the world. This year is no different, and as for our boys, they are playing in the bronze medal game vs Russia as I write this, showing us all the parity in this great event. Host Sweden is playing Finland for the Gold, which I think is great (for the game)(not my heart).

U.S. College Bowl Games

College Bowl games in the States are not for everybody (in Canada anyway) - but I love them. Mind you, they have gone a little crazy with the amount of Bowl Games and maybe how long they stretch them out. A prime example is the fact that the National Championship Game which will be played on Monday January 6 between Florida State (13 - 0) vs Auburn (12 - 1) will be over a month since these young guys played a game. However, it should be a good one....Florida State is simply put, a powerhouse and The Auburn Tigers are capable of anything. Did you see how they got into this game? They were playing undefeated Alabama  and with no time left on the clock Alabama kicked a field goal to win the game. They missed...click on the video below to see what happened.

NFL Playoffs

I love the NFL....the whole thing....and now that the playoffs are here I am pumped!! Yesterday, there were two games...and they were fantastic. Indianapolis were trailing by 28 points and came back to beat the Kanas City Chiefs... 45 - 44. Amazing. The late game saw a last minute field goal for New Orleans to win over Philly 26 - 24. Lots of football left to be played...leading of course to the Super Bowl on February 2.

NLL Lacrosse

The best sport in the world is back...yes The National Lacrosse League has started again, and for lacrosse fans, this is big news. Our home town Toronto Rock won their season opener and it looks like another promising season. I watched Colorado come back and beat Vancouver last night, and also witnessed a goal...let's just say, "back in the day" you would not have seen. It was a phenomenal goal, with incredible athleticism. Drew Westervelt caught the ball and went behind the net and leaped in the air and literally "Slam Dunked" the lacrosse ball into the Vancouver net. I know a lot of you have seen goals from behind the net...but this was the best I have ever seen.

NBA Basketball

I had to throw this in...as we are mid season and the Toronto Raptors are still in first place in the Atalanta Division and are actually starting to increase their lead. They are playing great "Team" Basketball (novel concept) - and because of their ability to share the ball, they are winning. Tonight is a big test as the play LeBron and the Miami Heat. Check it out.

Winter Olympics

I love the Olympics and especially the Winter Olympics. The big show begins on February 7th...so we are close. Follow Canada and cheer the team on...it should be a lot of fun.

I am looking forward to another great year in sports...can't wait to see what happens next.
