How About Canada?

How about these Olympics? I am loving it.

When PassItOnSports.ca was launched, it was all about the "feel good" sports stories. I like the stories that people share that make us all feel good about ourselves, about our family and our friends.

If there is a better example of Feel Good stories than the Olympics, I don't know what it is.

I was up at 6am this morning..threw on my Team Canada Lacrosse Jersey, made a coffee and settled in to watch Team Canada vs. Team Canada. It can't get any better.

I am not alone. All of Canada is up, the bars are full, draught beer is flowing - Canada - Love it.

This Olympics has been so full of "Feel Good" Stories, I can't list them all.

How about?

  • The Dufour-Lapointe sisters.
Maxime (10th) - Chloe (Silver Medal) - Justine (Gold Medal)

  • Gilmore Junio gave up his spot in the 1000 m Speed skating event to team mate Denny Morrison - Morrison went on to win the Silver Medal......feels good.

  • Canadian coach Justin Wadsworth helps a Russian skier. The skiers ski was broken and Wadsworth ran out with a spare ski and put it on the Russian Athlete - How about that?
Canadian Justin Wadsworth puts on ski to help racer finish.

  •  Marielle Thompson and Kelsey Serwa win Gold and Silver in Women's Ski Cross.

  • The Women's Bobsleigh event was amazing. Kaillie Humphries and Heather Moyes were trailing in the first three heats. In Heat 4, for the medals they had an amazing perfect run to win gold. It was so much fun to watch live. Very Proud.
Kaillie and Heather - These two great athletes will carry the Flag for Canada in closing ceremony.

  • How About the Jennifer Jones rink in Curling? They won Gold for Canada, were undefeated and made us all incredibly proud.
Gold Medal for our Women Curlers

Brad Jacob's Men's Curling Team won Gold also.
  • How about Team Canada Hockey?
The Women's game against the USA might be one of the most amazing sporting events I have ever witnessed. Combine the skill with the drama, it is hard to describe how "Good" that made me feel. How Good that made Canadians feel. It was spectacular.

  • The Olympics wrapped up today. Team Canada vs Team Sweden in the Gold Medal Men's Hockey Game. It brings a country together. Coast to coast people are up cheering the boys on. We refuse to give "Our Game" away. Hockey is Canada, and we are so proud to cheer on our Team.

Crosby scores late in second period to make it 2 - 0 Canada.

The Men's game is over - Team Canada won 3 - 0 in possibly the most dominant Gold Medal game I have seen. The boys did us proud!!

There are many stories I am not sharing here. This was a great Olympics and the Russians led the way in medals. Good on them.

Thanks Canada!!

My Sports ASAP Wish (short) list.

Things I would like to see.....and SOON!!

#1 - More Olympic Gold for Canada. We are doing a great job, and I am loving it....but i want more....but if we are only due to get two more...I pick Men's and Women's Hockey.

#2 - Toronto Raptors need to go on a roll...Playoffs are coming - Playoffs are coming!!

#3 - The Toronto Rock Lacrosse Club (and the whole NLL actually) need to bring back the "true fast break" and more one on one lacrosse. This is an old bitter subject with me...and I know some of you may be tired of it...but I cannot let it go. When you have a chance at a fast break take it..when you have a one on one opportunity...take it....Please. Remember our slogan?

#4 -  Toronto Maple Leafs continue to roll....and skate....and (well you know) win games - I need a deep Playoff run....deep - like third round. I need this. I really, really need this.

Ok....I said it was a short list. There it is.

Spring is in the Air?

It has been a long winter. At the risk of sounding like a whiner, I have had enough...so I am declaring today "Spring is Close Day".

Actually, if you look at your calendar, you will notice March 21 (Spring) is only about 5 weeks away.

There are more signs of spring though.

The Olympics are here, and I love it. When the Olympics are over, there is only 4 weeks until spring. There are so many great events at the Winter Olympics, I am sure you all have your favorites, and Canada has started out with a bang too.

Justine Dufour-Lapointe won a gold medal for Canada, and if that was not amazing, her sister Chloe won the silver. Way to go!!

                                                     Chloe (left) and Justine Dufour-Lapointe

The events are just getting going, but there is a lot of great sports to come. My favorites are the short track speed skating and the bobsledding and luge events...and the skiing...and the hockey - you get the idea, I love the Games. I would love to see the Double Gold from Women's and Men's Ice Hockey. Btw, have you actually looked at Team Canada's Mens Hockey Team?
OMG would sum it up. Very Strong.

There are more signs of spring too. Did you know that there are some Spring Training Baseball games at the end of this month. That is a great sign of spring.

The Toronto Maple leafs have played 60 games....that means only 24 games left until the NHL Playoffs....are you starting to feel that Spring is in the Air now?
Of Course, I don't want to jinx things....but, imagine if you will, the Maple Leafs, The Toronto Raptors and The Toronto Rock, all in the playoffs in the same Spring. Could happen, Bring it On!!

For me, MOB Lacrosse Commissioner, it is time to get my emails out for registration for Master's Lacrosse - season starts in April - that is in two months....it is coming fast.

Last Years Champs - RED HEAT

However, there is one big focus for this spring for me...and about 20 others. We are preparing for the World Lacrosse Championships in Denver, where we will be playing in the Grand Masters Division. It will be an exciting event, and there is a lot of work to do before we get there.

The weeks leading up to the World Championships I will be featuring the players that make up our team, with some bio's and pictures on this blog.

I also have a guest blogger that will be sharing his inspirational story leading up to Denver. More on that very soon.

It is an exciting tme.

Spring is here. Spring is here.
