Lake Placid - Final Roundup

It is all over in beautiful Lake Placid. Our final game today was at 10:30 am and was a game that was never in doubt. We started quickly again, as Scotty (strongheart) Aird got 2 of his 3 goals early...we went out to a 5 - 2 lead. The Crabmen came back to tie it at 5 - 5...and that was the end, Team Ontario scored the next 10 goals in a row...and we ended up winning in a romp 16 - 6.

There were many great plays in this game, my personal highlight was when my lifetime teammate and buddy Stu Aird who was playing long stick, intercepted a pass and went coast to coast with the ball and at the last second saw his older brother Scott who then buried the ball for third goal of the game, it was a beauty, and fun to watch.

There were some other great goals.....and underhand by Dave Johnston then rang off both goal posts before finding the net, goals by Brad Wales, Kevin Board, John Elliott and lots more. Teams were very impressed by our stick skills around the net, as our bizarre box/field lacrosse mix got the job done.

Where did we end up? Out of 16 teams, we officially came in 9th...because of the odd system they used in this tournament. If you lose the first game, you can finish no higher than 9th place which we did. The team we lost to by one goal (with 1 second remaning - ouch) ended up in the championship game.

So  - being Proud Canadians we have unofficially given ourself 3rd place in the Lake Placid Classic. I realize this is a very weak argument, but it is my argument to make.

The bottom line. We had a great tournament, a great time, with a lot of great people.
There were so many laughs and good times, but perhaps for me, maybe of the funniest lines
of the weekend came from the Canadian Border Agent, who after asking all the regular questions about our trip, she realized we were at a lacrosse tournament, and asked if we had any tobacco or alcohol in the vehicle, our driver Stu said "we have about 10 beer left in the cooler" - The quiet young lady who was our Custom's Agent quickly replied...."And you guys call yourself Canadian Lacrosse players...you could not finish the cooler??" - We did laugh at that one....she had us there.

This weekend was proof again, how very lucky I am to have such great friends, and am still able to play the sport I love.

Thanks to Warren Dimarco for leading us to the promised land. Here is a picture of our team before our final game.

  1. Not a bad job for a bunch of guys just putting a team together for the tournament. You showed we can still play even without the boards around us eh!
Talked with Shanny briefly at the provincials before he had to take off to work the NL game and he told me about the last second loss, ouch, had to sting a little. Anyway glad a good time was had by all and that everyone got home safe.
